Setting the mood
In order to build a picture of the tone and style of my portfolio website I started building a mood board in Photoshop. I chose my two main colours and font style and moved on to look at the page layout and over all grid system that I would use to build my website.
I chose to use white font on a dark background, styling my main headings in the secondary green colour for clarity. I felt separating the page content with horizontal white lines worked best, I would also use separate images for mouse-over effects where there were links.
The main project page layout would be set out with the content in the right column. All images would be large with a small caption underneath.
Using my wireframe sketch I was able to look at what grid system I would work to. I decided to use a 4 column grid and allow some elements of the website to break out of the grid.
With a better visual picture of the style, tone and layout of my website, I was able to start building my portfolio.
