Shambarber
We met with Steve at Shambarber to get a feel for the business. By asking questions about the requirements for the Shambarber website we were able to discuss this further in the studio where we worked in groups to collate the requirements for the project ahead.
I was able to take this information and start to build a better understanding of the services Shambarber would like brought to the forefront and given priority within the website.
Shambarber are a barbers but also promote and run events. By asking Steve questions we found that the shop generates the most business for Shambarber so this would be given proirity on the website over the events and other services such as product sales.
At this point I also started to think about Shambarbers competitors within the Stokes Croft area and the key Differentiators.
By looking at Mac Daddy's website as well as many other competitors I was able to get a feel for the level of competition with an online presence.
Next I was to think about the websites target audience and created a few visitor personas to build a picture of the tone of the websites content.
Meet Jed (below), Jed is a 24 year old second year UWE student who loves to party hard. He was directed to the Shambarber website via an event link on Twitter that someone else had re-tweeted. Jed was interested in the event itself but decided to have a nose to find more information. After looking around the Shambarber website he decided to pop in the shop on Student day to have a trim and talk music with the guys in the shop.....big thumbs up from Jed !
I also looked at which devices the target audience would be visiting from. As the majority of the potential audience would be students with mobile phones I added responsive website as part of the requirements for Shambarber.
By taking all requirements into consideration I was able to start mapping the website structure out. I could then see the hierarchy of pages and information types that the site would contain.
I also noted the relationship between pages to gain a better understanding for how visitors would navigate around the site.
By grouping together all the client requirements I was then able to start thinking about the project design.
