Planning

For my Appfurnace project I chose to build a small one and two player game that I would eventually call Thumb Wars. The first concept of the game was to press the thumb pad as many times as you could within 60 second, although I soon change this to 10 seconds.

I began to plan the game by first asking a few questions and wireframing the game to build a better visual picture of the task ahead.

Who is the app for?
The game would be for people of all ages who enjoy competitive, addictive games.

What platforms will it work on?
I would build the app for iOS, however I would also test on Android.

What does it do?
The game gives you 10 seconds to tap the thumb pad as many times as you can before you are shown your score. The two player version would announce the winner after the time is up.

What advanced features can I work in?
I would like to prompt the user to enter their name and keep a record of the final score in a database. The scores could also be shown on a high score page. I would also like an instructions page.

Next I started to sketch the wireframe of Thumb Wars and started to think about navigation throughout the various pages of the game

Working in illustrator I started to create the Thumb Wars logo. By laying various fonts out next to each other I was able to make my decision on which one I prefered. At this point I also chose the main colours for the game.

Designing the Thumb Wars logo in illustrator

Once I designed the logo I started to create a mood board to set the scene for the game. I created two buttons that varied slightly in colour so the user would know the button was pressed. I decided at this point that the background colour would be the same on all pages.

With my planning complete I could now move on to starting to build the app in Appfurnace with a better overall picture of the task ahead.
